The National
Librarian’s Day is celebrated every year on 12th August to
commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr. S. R. Ranganathan who is globally
revered and known as the father of Library Science in India due to exemplary contributions
to the field of library science. On this auspicious occasion, the Department of
Library and Information Science in association with the Internal Quality
Assurance Cell (IQAC) organized the ‘Book Exhibition and Free Distribution of
Books’ on 12th August 2023.
Gen. Secretary
of R.K. Multipurpose Foundation, Pune, Smt.Bhagrashree Salunke inaugurated the
Book Exhibition in the august presence of Shri. Anand Salunke, President of
RKMF, Pune along with Shri.Bharat Yade from Exam Department of S.P.Pune
University.
The motto behind
the free distribution of books was “Give a book, illuminate a mind” and the
event was attended by the staff and students of the college. This powerful
message was effectively conveyed to the student and staff community through
this exhibition since books are the most resourceful tool for learning and
self-improvement, whereas giving a book illuminates ignorant minds.
The Book Exhibition
showcased a wide range of books such as rare manuscripts, subject encyclopedias,
subject dictionaries, geographical sources etc. giving
the attendees a chance to explore, learn and acquire knowledge encouraging the promotion
of literacy through reading. It served as a reminder and fitting tribute to the
legacy of Dr. S. R. Ranganathan, who continues to inspire librarians and
information professionals around the world.
