Birth Anniversary of Padma Shri Prof. Dr. S. R. Ranganathan as National Librarian’s Day 2024   organized at Poona College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Pune

On August 12, 2024, Poona College of Arts, Science, and Commerce celebrated National Librarian's Day with a special address on 'Reading and Writing – A Best Hobby' by renowned Marathi Literature Writer Dr. Anjali Kulkarni. The event, organized by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and the Department of Library and Information Science, commemorated the birth anniversary of Padma Shri Prof. Dr. S. R. Ranganathan.

Dr. Shaikh Shakir introduced the Guest of Honour, Dr. Anjali Kulkarni, while Dr. Amjad Shaikh (Vice-Principal) delivered the welcome address, emphasizing the significance of reading and writing in acquiring knowledge.

Dr. Anjali Kulkarni's keynote speech highlighted the importance of National Librarian's Day and encouraged students to engage in reading and writing activities. She shared her personal experience, stressing the value of recording important points, writing reviews, and reflecting on the emotional impact of what one reads.

The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Shaikh Muhammad Zuber, Coordinator and Librarian. Over 100 students and staff members attended the event, including Dr. Gulab Pathan, Dr. Sayyed Iliyas, Dr. Imran Qureshi Dr. Javed Akhtar and Miss. Shabista Shaikh.

Student Induction Program (SIP)

24th July - 31st  July 2024

Poona College proudly hosted the Deeksharambh 2024-2025, a comprehensive Student Induction Program (SIP), from 24th to 31st July 2024, aligning with Savitribai Phule Pune University guidelines. This pivotal initiative welcomed first-year students from all faculties, fostering a seamless transition into college life.

The objective of the programme was to acquaint students with Poona College's Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), introduce faculty members, departments, and support services, cultivate a sense of community, belonging, and academic enthusiasm. It was also to showcase the college's vibrant resources and facilities.

 The renowned faculty members delivered engaging presentations, covering;

1.      Faculty overviews and research interests.

2.      Departmental introductions and curriculum insights.

3.      Knowledge Resource Centre (Library) services and online resources.

Dr. Muhammad Zuber, Director of the Knowledge Resource Centre, enthralled students with an insightful presentation on library access, services, and facilities, navigating online resources, web courses, and digital databases, effective research skills and academic integrity, promoting reading habits and lifelong learning.

Following the presentation, students embarked on a guided library tour, exploring:

1.      State-of-the-art infrastructure and study spaces.

2.      Print and digital resource collections.

3.      Research assistance and interlibrary loan services.

The Deeksharambh program received overwhelmingly positive feedback from students, indicating its effectiveness in fostering a sense of community, introducing college resources, and promoting academic enthusiasm.
